KARACHI: A second year intermediate student in Karachi lost his life in alleged firing by police during a quarrel over cell phone snatching, a private TV channel reported on Monday.
According to reports, the victim Abrar had posted an ad on a website to sell out his mobile phone. A customer, identified as Dilnawaz, came to meet Abrar at Sindh Muslim Society late Sunday night, snatched Abrar’s phone and drove away his car without paying. Abrar hung on to the car as it sped on.
“When a patrolling party of police opened fire on them, the bullet hit Abrar and he died on the spot,” eyewitnesses said. Dilnawaz was injured in the firing.
Police however denied shooting dead the young boy. SHO Ferozabad claimed that he does not know the policemen who fired at the boys. According to reports, the police vehicle belonged to the counter-terrorism department.
Also, there was no clue about whereabouts of the policemen who opened fire. Meanwhile, police investigation revealed that Dilnawaz’s vehicle was bearing a fake number plate, and that he has a criminal record.
