RAWALPINDI: Banners and flexes have again been put up in Rawalpindi on Saturday that calls for General Raheel Sharif – Chief of the Army Staff – to contest in the general elections of 2018.
The banners assert that Raheel Sharif should head the country if the two-year restriction on office holders is relaxed. Any office holder is demanded by the constitution to wait for two years after retirement before contesting any election.
The flexes state name of chief of the movement as Sheikh Amjad Ali who is purported to be a spokesperson of Awami Monitoring Cell (Rawalpindi). The content of the flexes claim that the general would help create harmony between military and civil leadership once he gets elected as the prime minister.
The movement also claims that the army chief would win the general elections of 2018 with a significant margin if he contests. It should be noted here that this is not the first time a movement such as this one has emerged.
