KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday allowed withdrawal of illegal arms possession case against former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Faisal Raza Abidi.
Abidi was earlier arrested when the Rangers’ forces raided his house located in New Rizvia Housing Society on November 5 and booked a case for alleged possession of unlicensed weapons.
According to the prosecution, a number of weapons, with a wide spectrum ranging from submachine guns to Kalashnikovs were seized from his house. Abidi failed to produce a permit for one weapon and was arrested. Later, he obtained bail from the court.
The investigation officer, at a previous hearing, recommended the court to withdraw the case, as the former senator had produced the permit of the weapon later during an investigational probe.
The document was cross verified by the relevant department, he added.
The magistrate in light of the most recent police report called off the charges placed against Abidi. Initially, the case was registered under Section 23(1) A of the Sindh Arms Act at the Sachal police station.
